An Insight To Sail Smoothly Together – Introspection on Stress Management in a very enjoyable manner

At the beginning Mr. Ashis Kumar Sarkar (President-NBC) welcomed the Hon'ble speaker Dr Tushar Guha and the audience. He apprised of the prevailing pandemic situation and its demoralising effect on all of us. However, under the duress, NBC had still managed to host the 'stress management' workshop for the members.

Dr Tushar Guha was introduced to the audience by Ms Mou Dutta (Treasurer- NBC LW), briefing about his extraordinary and multifaceted carrier with numerous achievements spanning over 50 years. His life and work are reflected in the documentary film ‘NIRJHAR’.

Ms. Mou mentioned that Dr Guha is an active social worker and works with numerous institutions for the poor, handicapped, homeless as well as cancer and AIDS patients. Dr Guha is an Expert Faculty on Personality Development with the World Bank Aided Educational Projects, Govt. of India.

After the introduction, Dr Tushar Guha started with a thanking note, stating his pleasure about talking on stress management. He started his presentation on a humorous note mentioning about the types of facial expressions - constipated face and loose motion face.

Following were the highlights from his delivery to our audience:

  • Stress influences our life and is part of our life. So, we need to understand the cause of stress and take initiative to solve it
  • Stress are of different types and occur at different stages. It can happen to us on emotional, intellectual, social and professional stages of our life, affecting us mentally and physically
  • Today, the most important stress that we are living with is the “COVID 19 Pandemic” which has shaken the whole world.

He gave us the tips to live with this pandemic situation for which we need to do certain activities

  • Keeping ourselves engaged in different activities is the best way to overcome the negative thoughts and fear... Meditation and Yoga also really help
  • In order to handle stress we should have positive approach, avoid toxic negativity around us, do things which makes us happy, and relieve stress with fun to feel relaxed
  • He mentioned about monotonous life style that creates anxiety among few people just like the Economic theory - 'Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility'
  • To approach the positive vibes, we should be in the receiving mode
  • To get rid of stress and anxiety we should have 'Time Pass Session' with family members and friends
  • Finally, as Psychology says generally in a meeting, no one has patience of listening for more than 5 minutes minutely; the points to be conveyed should be short and to the point.

At the end there was a Q&A session:

Overall the questions from many members were around how to do away with the stress experienced personally and negativity that comes on our way? What to do during those stages and how to manage?

Dr. Tushar Guha hinted us on simple ways of getting through stress. Meditation, talking to God, exercise, laugh, spend time with our children, watching movies and reading good books. All these activities can get us away from the problems that we face. He showed some exercise online.

At the end, Ms. Mou Dutta on behalf of NBC members, thanked Dr. Tushar Guha and Mr. Girish Dalvi (Director - Operations, Nityanjali) and also to the viewers of NBC family.
