On Saturday the 2nd of February 2008 the Ladies' Wing of New Bengal Club organized a small get-together to interact with some of our senior citizens - fine idea that should continue in future. The evening was very informal and mainly revolved around the varied experiences in the lives of the senior citizens which many narrated - some very hilarious, some dangerous, some very homely, several from their married lives - which appeared to be most popular - to others in their professional careers. The idea to get the seniors themselves to participate in the programme ex-tempore was very good. Many came up with so many funny events that occurred in their lives and what came through was the "togetherness" of the family and the senior couples. The support they are receiving from their children came through their narrations.
Some participated in the recitation of poems, others to perform some wonderful songs from yester years. Leaving us not with nostalgia, but an invigorating feeling of being active members of society.
What was obvious was the talent of several seniors, which somehow should percolate down to the younger generations.
Included in the programme was a short but intriguing introduction to "Sahaja Yoga" or "Self Realization" more conveniently known as "Kundalini Awakening". This yoga claims to induce an inner transformation that helps to provide mental, physical and spiritual health. The simple process of using the palms of our hand placed in specific areas of our body is a key to the yoga.
The talk was well received in general and we thank the ladies who took time and patiently tried to give us a view to another plane to spiritual awakening.
The evening began with fruit juice and ended with gift packages for all those who attended. Whether we can digest all or need antacids is debatable but a whole evening that was a tonic to the seniors for sure.
Congratulations! And thank you to the Ladies Wing of New Bengal Club for their effort and we hope to have many more such interactions in the years to come!
Life is still a lot of fun for many of us!!
