Every year we, at NBC, make it an agenda to extend need based help to some organisations, associated with the orphans, in whatever little way we can. This year also on 23rd June 2018 (Saturday), we visited an orphanage at Yeoor Hill, Thane, named Vivekanand Balakashram extending a helping hand as a friend in need.
We were heartily welcomed by Ms. Vishakha from the orphanage with a smiling face.
As per their request, we carried seven ceiling fans to be presented to make the children comfortable therein. Our members, Sital & Sujan Mukherjee, added a Pureit water purifier in club's donation basket; while Monika Sarkar and Malabika Bose added Biscuit packets & chocolates for all the boys.
We presented all the above said items to them which made them very happy.
There are about 60 very well disciplined boys aged ranging from 7 yrs to 17 years. They go to a nearby Marathi medium school. They all gathered to have photo with us and then went to the prayer hall in a queue silently.
We spent time for about an hour with all of them. All the boys sitting in their Mandir prayer hall, nicely echoed in chorus a prayer song, line by line, sung by Ladies Wing Secretary Monica Sarkar. We all enjoyed their soulful singing. At the end they clapped and expressed thanks to us.
One of the caretakers, Ms. Parchi, was very cordial and thankful while talking to us.
After visiting this place in a remote corner up in the hills in the outskirts of Thane city, we felt this orphanage needs attention and we shall consider our possibilities to extend help as far as practicable in future.
It was a day well spent.
