In an attempt to bridge the gap between the privileged & the underprivileged, our Ladies' Wing regularly organises Meljhol.
In August 17, 2003 a hindi play with a social message was crafted for the children of Divyaprabha, an organisation working with homeless children. In turn, the children of Divyaprabha used this platform to exhibit their talents in dancing. The children of Divyaprabha & the children of New Bengal Club members exchanged friendship bands. Snacks & gifts were provided to the children of Divyaprabha.
"The whole idea behind the show was to make our children understand the need to respond to the needs of society at large instead of being cocooned in their own selfish desires. This platform makes that intermingling easy." claimed Meenakshi Datta, the president of the ladies wing of the club (2003).
With this activity, the Divyaprabha children will transcend barriers & feel wanted and cared for felt the club members. Corroborating their opinion Sister Juliet of Divyaprabha stated, "We get different types of help from different people. But this programme was unique for it made the children feel wanted."
Prior to this programme, the club had also invited the children of Ma Niketan Orphanage, mobile crèche at Hiranandani Estate & other such institutions to partake in various festivities.
This year on 10th December 2005, the children of Nava Jivan Vidyalaya were invited. Welcoming the participants , Mrs Gargi Dev the president of the ladies wing of the club (2005), explained the whole idea behind the programme and invited Mr. Bajaj of Nava Jivan Vidyalaya to say a few words. Their short speeches touched one & all.
Friendship bands were tied, snacks were served & gifts were presented to the children of Nava Jivan Vidyalaya. Our children mingled freely with their counterparts from Nava Jivan Vidyalaya, who used this platform effectively to exhibit their talents in singing, dancing, recitation, etc.
All our Meljhol programmes are really very touching & leave a lasting impression on all of us.
